A bit about me: I'm in my 50s, born and raised in Paris. Since then, I've lived in various countries and cities—New York for a couple of years, Madrid for fourteen, and Berlin for nine, and have recently moved to Italy (where I hope to be more successful at learning Italian than I was with German).
I guess I call myself an "industry expert." Almost my entire career has been in one single industry, known as airline distribution. Airline distribution encompasses all the technology and commercial dynamics that are behind the products and brands you often rely on to purchase a flight ticket.
The bulk of my industry expertise came from working for one of the leading players in this industry (Amadeus) for twelve years. Yes, twelve years. A lifetime, but I don’t regret a second of it. Firstly, it was so much fun to live in Madrid during those years. Secondly, I learned a ton about airline distribution, and thirdly, it was where my first idea of what would ultimately become my venture, flyiin, emerged.
It took me 10 years to make the step. In my defense, though, the industry wasn't ready back then (will it ever be, actually?). And even if it had been, I wasn't ready. The corporate world gives you a level of comfort that makes it difficult for many to make the step towards entrepreneurship and financial instability.
Until that famous day when you're sitting in an interminable and meaningless meeting and telling yourself: "That's it. I can’t take it anymore. Please get me out of here. I need action." Then, and only then, you make that step.
